When using the Outlook thick client and O365, Microsoft states caching mode is required as there is too much latency between us and the cloud to provide a responsive thick client experience in online mode. To solve this problem, you can empty the cache in Outlook so that Outlook 2016 for Mac can download all the items from your Exchange account again.Last year our organization migrated from an on-prem email solution to Microsoft Office 365 cloud-based email. If this cache becomes corrupted, it may cause synchronization problems with the Exchange server. Items from an Exchange account are stored in the Outlook cache.OST file on a network share with mixed results.Outlook for Mac In Outlook, select your Exchange Online mailbox folder in the left-hand navigation pane. I have heard of some organizations hosting the. This is not a viable approach due to drive space, performance reasons, and the requirement for the end users to "recreate" their Outlook profiles every time they log into a different server or after profiles are purged for maintenance purposes. Outlook sits at 30% for about two minutes and then it will open. You need to leave Cached Mode turned on to keep Outlook from getting sluggish at the start but uncheck Download Shared.I've been testing this for the past week and what I'm seeing is that Outlook 2016 will launch and create the OST for the first time on the user's home drive. I heard that Windows itself can get bogged down and then queues the process which is why it takes so long. I also tried disabling Antivirus on one of the servers thinking that maybe it was slowing down the write process. I tried two different servers to store the OST without any significant change. Now once the OST is created, subsequent logins have been pretty responsive. When I look at task manager on the client and server, I really don't see anything maxed out in terms of network/memory/cpu so I'm not sure what's causing the slowdown on the initial OST creation.
